Minutes: Several parents had expressed a concern to Board Members about a possible conflict between the Utility Authority's use of the driving course and Orange Park High School's marching band.  However, Ben Wortham assured the Board that he had talked with Mr. Veres and there will be no conflict with any school activities.

51. Attendance Boundary Revisions and Authorization to Advertise

In establishing the attendance boundaries for the new school Coppergate Elementary, eight existing elementary schools will also be affected.  There was much discussion about the impacts to Keystone Elementary and McRae Elementary and the possibility of moving the Highridge Estates area.  The Board requested further considerations and information concerning the effects for these two schools and, following discussion, agreement was to approve the authorization to advertise the boundary changes without these two schools until other options could be discussed.

Authorize advertisement of school boundary changes, with the exception of McRae Elementary and Keystone Heights Elementary, effective Fiscal Year 2007/08. (Official action to be scheduled for November 21, 2006). - PASS

Minutes: 

The following people were present and spoke expressing opposition to redistricting Initiative #1 which recommends the possibility of converting Grove Park Elementary School to a non-student station carrying facility.

School Board's Requests
53. 6th Gr. Participation in Sports
Minutes: 

At Mr. Bolla's request, Superintendent Owens explained the decision to not allow the 6th grade students at Oakleaf School to participate in sports with the 7th and 8th graders.  This decision was based on the K-8 grade structure only being in effect for two years and the tremendous concern voiced by parents prior to the school's opening about keeping the K-6 students separated from the junior high students.  The 6th graders in all other elementary schools in the district would not have this same opportunity for participation and, furthermore, we do not want to get into interscholastic sports at the elementary level.
